Gems are how Open Sourcery celebrates members who show up and contribute. Earn them by attending our events and making contributions to open-source projects, then see how you stack up on the leaderboard. Counts reset every semester, so everyone starts fresh in Fall 2026.

Two ways to earn Gems:

Attend events

  • +50Earn 50 Gems for attending Hack Sessions or GBMs
  • +30Earn 30 Gems for other events (social events, workshops, etc.)

Make open-source contributions

  • +5Earn 5 Gems for opening an issue in your project
  • +15Earn 15 Gems for reviewing a teammate's pull request
  • +40Earn 40 Gems for creating a pull request that gets merged into your project
  • +60Earn 60 Gems for creating a pull request that gets merged into another Open Sourcery project
  • +15Earn 15 Gems for creating a pull request that gets merged into a public repository (outside Open Sourcery); your first 5 of the semester, then 7 each for the next 10 and 3 after that
